M3U on Samsung & LG Smart TV — 2026 Setup Guide

You don't need a Fire TV Stick or an Android box to run IPTV on a modern Samsung or LG smart TV. Both Tizen (Samsung) and webOS (LG) have official IPTV apps in their app stores that load M3U playlists directly. The picture quality is identical to a dedicated box, and the remote control just works — no extra hardware on your HDMI port.
How IPTV works on a smart TV
An M3U playlist is just a text file that lists the channels your IPTV provider streams. The smart TV app reads the file, renders an EPG grid, and uses the TV's hardware decoder to play each stream. Because everything runs on the TV's own CPU/GPU, you get lossless 4K HDR with no buffering when the network is healthy.
Samsung Tizen (2018+) — install Smart IPTV
On the Samsung home screen, open the 'Apps' tile, then click the magnifying glass to search. Type 'Smart IPTV' and install the official 'Smart IPTV' app by Tech-Lock Ltd. (Note: this is a one-time €5.49 paid app — there is no free tier, but you only pay once.) After installation, open the app and you'll see a screen with a MAC address. Visit the SIPTV activation page from your phone, paste that MAC and your M3U URL, then restart the app. Channels appear in seconds.
LG webOS (2018+) — install IPTV Smarters or SS-IPTV
On LG TVs, open the LG Content Store (the shopping bag icon) and search for 'IPTV Smarters'. Install it, then log in with your Xtream Codes credentials. If you'd rather use the free SS-IPTV app, the activation flow is similar: install, open, take note of the device code, register it on ss-iptv.com, then paste the M3U URL into the 'External playlists' panel. Both apps support HDR and Dolby Atmos on compatible LG OLED models.
Step-by-step: loading your M3U URL
1) Open the IPTV app on your TV. 2) Find 'Add playlist' or 'External playlists'. 3) Enter the M3U URL from your iptvCANADA welcome email. 4) Click 'Save' or 'Refresh'. 5) Wait 10–30 seconds while the app downloads the channel list. 6) Switch to the 'Live TV' tab — your full lineup should now be there, sorted by country and category. The EPG grid usually takes another minute to populate.
Tweaking picture and sound
On a 4K Samsung or LG, set Picture Mode to 'Movie' or 'Filmmaker Mode' for accurate colours, then enable HDMI UHD Color (Samsung) or HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour (LG) on the port your box is plugged into. For sound, change the audio output to 'Passthrough' so your soundbar or AV receiver gets the original Dolby Atmos or DTS:X bitstream. If you hear audio-video desync, switch the app's audio track to 'AC3' instead of 'AAC'.
When the app is missing from the store
Some older LG webOS 3.0 TVs and Samsung Tizen 2015–2017 models don't have these apps. The easiest workaround is a $35 Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite — see our Fire TV tutorial. Alternatively, you can cast from your phone to the TV using the built-in AirPlay (LG) or Smart View (Samsung) feature, then control the channels from the phone app.
